Margaritaville Reclaims Guinness World Record for Largest Margarita

Chicago, IL – On Oct. 14 at 5:00 p.m., Margaritaville broke the World Record for the largest Margarita ever made as confirmed by Guinness World Records. In partnership with Margaritaville Tequila and other Margaritaville brands, the event was held as part of the Grand Opening of the Margaritaville Casino at The Flamingo in Las Vegas.

After over six months of planning, the mixing of the gigantic 8,500 gallon beverage, appropriately named Lucky Rita, began on Oct. 11, 2011. Lucky Rita took an estimated 300 work hours to create from start to finish.

Surpassing the previous record holder by 873 gallons, Lucky Rita's recipe included:

  • 2,125 Gallons of Margaritaville Gold Tequila
  • 708 Gallons of Margaritaville Triple Sec
  • 5,667 Gallons of Margarita Mix
  • 22,267 Limes

The recipe serves 181,333 6 oz. Margaritas!

Halfway through the World Record ceremony, Jimmy Buffett surprised fans by joining and raising a glass of Lucky Rita to a crowd of over 1,000 onlookers and special guests, the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team.

“Much appreciation for these great wounded warriors, who I've worked with for a long time. Gentleman, thank you for coming out,” Buffett commented. “We're going to have a good time this weekend. Let the FIN begin!”

Lucky Rita will be poured to guests throughout the week allowing them to have a taste of history and contribute to a great cause. For every gallon of Lucky Rita sold, Margaritaville will donate $5 to the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. More than just a Margarita- Lucky Rita is a concoction with a cause!
