Menus Get a Summer Revamp

Atlanta’s One Midtown Kitchen rolled out its summer cocktail menu, inspired by the classics but with a warm weather twist. Bar manager Linda Torres heads up the program, which uses house-made grenadine and syrups, ginger beer and select small boutique spirits. Summer drinks include the Jalisco Old Fashioned (reposado tequila, agave nectar and bitters); Arancio Americano (Campari, sweet vermouth, orange juice and Prosecco) and Jonny’s Homemade (house-made ginger beer, lemon juice, honey syrup, Dewar’s and Laphroaig single malt).

Some bars are going global for the games. In addition to a special early menu accompanying a big screen show of all World Cup games, Trattoria Cinque in New York City is offering a World Cup cocktail menu crafted by general manager Alessandro Refroni that includes the Giulietta (Dewar's 12-Year-Old Scotch, Bacardi 8-Year-Old Rum, spiced simple syrup and lemon juice). Other drinks include the Bianchina (cachaça, Cointreau, cilantro and fresh lime) and the Dino (Bombay Sapphire Gin, sweet vermouth, grapefruit juice, a lime twist and salted rim).

In the Pacific Northwest, strawberry season means new cocktails. At the 19 Anthony’s locations in Seattle, Tacoma, Wash., Bend, Ore., and other locations, that means Strawberry Lemonade, the Strawberry Summer Cooler (fresh strawberries, guava, soda and Stoli vodka) and the herbaceous Strawberry Mojito (fresh strawberries, lime, Bacardi rum and mint over ice).

At the Bellevue, Wash., Pearl Bar and Dining, the Shiso Wild Drop won the Local Table’s 2010 people’s choice for Best Cocktail. The drink mixes Finlandia Wildberries Fusion vodka, triple sec, house-made lemon sour, muddled shiso leaf and a huckleberry tea sugar rim.

Brother Jimmy’s in NYC’s Union Square is rolling out new bourbon cocktails for the summer. Owner Josh Lebowitz is in charge of beverages, including Dixieland Delight (Woodford Reserve, muddled cucumber, fresh lime and lemon juice and ginger ale) and Bubbling Bayou (Woodford Reserve, amaretto, Frangelico, simple syrup and ginger ale).
