Thanksgiving Isn't Just for Turkey and Mashed Potatoes!

Thinking back to 1621, it truly is something to celebrate when two polar opposite groups of people from different worlds can come together to sit down at one table to feast. This symbolic dinner with greater meaning eventually became known as Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a day to come together with family and friends to express your gratitude for all that you have. While the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce are all crowd pleasers, shake it up a little...literally! Experiment with some of the recipes below to enhance your guests' holiday experience!

More Than a Barrel Full O’ Turkeys

1 oz. Wild Turkey Spiced
1 oz. Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon
1 Dash Absinthe
1/2 oz. Orange Juice
1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
1 Barspoon Cardamom-Infused Grenadine

Shake and strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with orange spiral.

Cranberry Spice Cocktail

2 oz. Aperol
1 oz. Lillet Blanc
4 oz. hard cider
4 dashes Cranberry-Anise Bitters or Peychaud's bitters
1 orange wedge
13 cranberries
Three 1-inch pieces crystallized ginger— 2 minced and 1 whole for garnish

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the orange wedge with 10 of the cranberries and the minced ginger. Add the Aperol, Lillet Blanc, bitters and ice. Shake well. Double-strain the drink into an ice-filled Collins glass and top off with the hard cider. Garnish with the 3 remaining cranberries and the slice of ginger skewered on a toothpick.

Cranberry Spice Cocktail

Apple Spiced Martini

2 oz. SKYY Vodka
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. Apple Spiced Simple Syrup (recipe below)
2 dashes angostura bitters
Slice of apple (for garnish)

Put all ingredients in shaker. Add ice and shake. Strain through Hawthorn shaker into chilled coupe glass garnished with apple.

Apple Spiced Martini

2 oz. SKYY Infusions Blood Orange
6 oz. hot apple cider
Cinnamon stick garnish

Combine ingredients in a snifter glass. Sprinkle with nutmeg and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Apres Ski

Hot Wattle

1 oz. Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon
1/4 oz. Cynar
1/2 oz. Port Wine
1/2 oz. Oloroso Sherry
1/2 Part Water
1 Bag Earl Grey Tea

Add all to pot and bring to simmer. Remove tea bag after 5 minutes. Serve hot in punch glasses and garnish with orange peel, cinnamon stick and clove star anise.

Hot Wattle

Autumn Apple

1 oz. Avión Reposado
1 oz. Fresh Pressed Apple Juice
1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 oz. Agave Nectar

Combine all ingredients in shaker, shake vigorously. Fine strain over fresh ice. Garnish with cinnamon stick or apple slice.

Autumn Apple

Caramel Ginger Crisp

2 oz. Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka
1/4 tsp. fresh ginger
Splash of cream optional
Chocolate covered pretzels (for Martini glass)

Shake the Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka and ginger and put it in a Martini glass rimmed with chocolate covered pretzels. (To rim the glass, use simple syrup on the edge. Take a handful of chocolate-covered pretzels and put them in a plastic baggie, smash it with a hammer, then dipped the glass in it.)

Caramel Ginger Crisp

The Maple Man

1.5 oz. Hennessy V.S
.5 oz. Oloroso Sherry
½ a lime
1 whole mandarin without the skin
.25 oz. maple syrup
4 dashes of angostura bitters

Add all ingredients to a shaker tin with ice, shake until well chilled.  Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass with fresh ice and garnish with an orange twist

Maple man

Rusty Apple Toddy
Created by DRAMBUIE Scotch

3 oz. apple juice
1 oz. DRAMBUIE Scotch Liqueur
Juice from a lemon wedge (e.g. quarter of a lemon)
Garnish with cinnamon stick

Heat the apple juice. Next, pour DRAMBUIE into a teacup or handled latte glass, then add heated apple juice and squeeze in the juice of the 1 lemon wedge. Garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick.
