National Harvey Wallbanger Day

Today is National Harvey Wallbanger Day!

This cocktail is essentially a Screwdriver with a splash of Galliano Liqueur floating on top. The real question is, who came up with this eccentric name for a cocktail?

Now, no one is absolutely certain at the origin of this wacky name, but legend has it the beverage was named after a Manhattan surfer. This person, named Harvey (go figure), would go surfing and after every session, he would create a concoction with orange juice, vodka and Galliano Liqueur. Allegedly, this Harvey character had one too many after one surfing excursion and proceeded to bang into walls, unknowingly creating a fun name for the cocktail he created.

While this may not be the true reason behind the Harvey Wallbanger, I’m going to believe it’s true because who doesn’t love a good story behind a cocktail? Share this legend with your customers on National Harvey Wallbanger Day!
