Brandon KimName: “Mr. Hawaii” Brandon Kim

Establishment Name: Zanzabar Nightclub in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Recent Gigs: Regarded as the fastest bartender in Hawaii by his peers in the industry, as well as the locals, Kim began working at Zanzabar Nightclub in 2005 as a host and barback. From there, he moved up in the ranks and is currently serving as the club’s operations manager.

What’s in the Shaker: “My new original signature drink for the summer of 2011, The Summer Love! It contains watermelon and apple pucker, Bacardi 151, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, pineapple juice and 7 Up. Cheers!”

What You’re Sipping & Why: “Champagne! Say no to Champagne, say no to life!”

What You are Dancing to while Mixing: "Afrojack, Tiësto, Kaskade, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Erick Morillo, Paul Oakenfold, Armin van Buuren, Bob Sinclar, Oscar G, Daft Punk, Venaccio & Daigon, DJ Layla, Emilia de Poret, Kim Sozzi, Nadia Ali."

Quirks & Quotable: “Besides knowing how to control your alcohol and being efficient behind the bar, the greatest quality of a bartender, I believe, is being able to connect with each guest in a positive, individualized manner. It is from those positive individualized connections, which keep your guests coming back to your establishment, that also help spread the word about your place. Word of mouth is the best and most ideal way to market, but most importantly, making those connections with each guest goes beyond the industry in which we are in – hospitality... it’s a way of life. So, whatever it is that you decide to do, do it right, for it’s not what you do, but how you do it that matters.”

Other quotes Kim lives by:
“Less is more.”
“Two hands are better than one.”
“Know your bar and keep your head up.”
“Everyone is fighting his/her own battle.”
“You can’t always control your circumstances, but you can always control your actions.”
“Never stop learning.”
“Service with a smile.”
