While it isn’t technically what cider aficionados and Europeans would refer to as a “perry,” Angry Orchard
has announced the release of Angry Orchard Pear fruit cider. Because this cider is made with pears and
apples it isn’t a perry, but the aromas and flavors are reminiscent of the traditional pear-based beverage. Angry Orchard Pear
is made with domestic Bartlett, D'Anjou and Bosc pears, and Gala, Fuji, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith culinary apples. The refreshing flavors, smooth mouthfeel, dry finish and sessionable 5.0% ABV offer your guests an appealing fall alternative to beers, wines and cocktails. While it’s perfect for fall, Angry Orchard’s new pear-apple cider is going to be available all year-round, meaning guests who fall in love with it won’t have to suffer the disappointment of it disappearing for months on end.
Can we interest you in a 522-year-old gin?
Okay, so maybe this gin isn’t actually more than 500 years old, but check this out: The world’s oldest gin recipe was first documented in 1495 in the duchy (a territory or country ruled by a duke or duchess) of Guelders . We now know Guelders as Germany, and the recipe, according to The Curious Bartender’s Gin Palace by Tristan Stephenson, was actually for a brandy made from “10 quarts of wine thinned with clear Hamburg beer. After distillation, the liquid would be redistilled with ‘two handfuls of dried sage, 1Lb of cloves, 12 whole nutmegs, cardamom, cinnamon, galangal, ginger, grains of paradise’ and – crucially – ‘juniper berries.’”
Copper & Kings American Brandy Co. has brought this history lesson to life. This was no easy task. The project involved interpreting the recipe in a way that makes sense and is scalable, and Copper & Kings also collaborated with Monnik Beer Co. to recreate medieval Hamburg beer. The result is “an earthy, savory, oily,” non-chill filtered, 94-proof labor of love with zero neutral spirits called Copper & Kings 1495 Guelders Gin that you, your bartenders and your guests are going to want to experience.
What about luxury rye?
Perhaps limited release, medieval gin isn’t your bar’s forte. Maybe exclusive straight rye whiskeys are more your and your guests’ speed. In that case, The Cooper Spirits Co.
has just what you’re looking for. The third release in the Lock Stock & Barrel whiskey series
, Lock Stock & Barrel 18-Year Straight Rye Whiskey, is now available. This luxury rye whiskey is made from a 100% rye grain mash bill, double distilled, and aged in new charred American Oak barrels in cold weather for 18 years. Bottled at 109 proof, Lock Stock & Barrel 18-Year is characterized by rich, intense but smooth and balanced notes of hot, buttered gingerbread, tobacco leaf, toasted pecan, dried peach, and ripe honeydew.
We may not see something like this again for a decade.
We haven’t seen a 25-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon from Michter’s
for 9 years. That’s going to change in November now that Michter’s Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann
, who takes her job as whiskey release gatekeeper seriously, has given the thumbs up to release Michter’s 25 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon
. The last time such a bottling occurred at Michter’s was in 2008, so don’t miss out on this 116.2-proof release. It may just be a decade before we get to see such liquid again.
