10th Anniversary Spirits of Mexico Festival May 29

Tickets are on sale for the 10th anniversary Spirits of Mexico Festival, North America’s oldest, largest and most comprehensive celebration of agave-based spirits, which will begin its national tour in New York City May 29 before moving on to Chicago and San Diego.

Spirit enthusiasts are invited to attend the annual event where they will have the opportunity to sample dozens of signature styles of spirits produced in Mexico, attend seminars and sample authentic Mexican cuisine.

Dale DeGroff, founding president of The Museum of the American Cocktail, and Junior Merino, president of the Liquid Chef, Inc., will judge which cocktail will win the Spirits of Mexico New York City Cocktail of 2013. The cocktails used in the competition will be made with DeGroff’s Pimento Aromatic Bitters and Merino’s Dainzu Syrups. Guests will vote for a People’s Choice selection.

A tasting panel, hosted by Gregg Glaser of Modern Distillery Age, will blind sample selections of brands and share their thoughts with guests throughout the evening. A silent auction -- featuring rare and personal items donated by master distillers -- will benefit the Sky Ranch Foundation.

The event will take place at Astor Center, 399 Lafayette St., Wed., May 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. VIP tickets are $85 in advance and include early entrance at 6 p.m., gift bags for the first 50 VIP guests, an exclusive seminar hosted by Mezcal from Oaxaca featuring 11 unique trending styles of varietals and blends and free admission to the after party beginning at 9:30 p.m. at Agave NY, hosted by Olmeca Altos Tequila. VIP participants will also have the opportunity to meet Jaime Salas, Milagro Tequila ambassador, who will serve his specially created welcome cocktail and host a specialty seminar. Tickets for general admission, starting at 7 p.m., are $65.

New York City is the Spirits of Mexico’s first stop, which will also travel to Chicago in June and San Diego in September. For more information or to purchase tickets for the event, visit http://www.thespiritsofmexico.com/purchasetickets.com.
