As you do probably know, here at Nightclub & Bar we don’t take drink holidays lightly and neither should you. The good news, there are plenty of good rums, old and new, for you to take advantage of today. Rum is a celebrated spirit and today provides the perfect opportunity to showcase its versatility and flavor to your patrons.
So with that said, now is as good a time as any to become fully acquainted with one of summer's most enjoyable spirits. It's made from distilled sugarcane by-product such as molasses and sugarcane juices by a process of fermentation and distillation. With multiple varieties - clear ones, gold ones, dark ones, black ones and spiced ones – there is always something for every customer you have. One of the best parts of rum is its versatility; it can be sipped, mixed, or dumped into a punch bowl.
What I like most about rum is the mega-trend revival of Tiki drinks, where rum’s engaging personality takes the leading role. Classically structured Tiki recipes often call for a wide assortment of rum types where its flavor makes a lasting impression.
Whether you’re customers enjoy a Tiki drink like me or prefer sipping Brugal neat, you should kick of the holiday right by offering your customers a unique rum inspired cocktail.
Here are a couple of cocktail ideas to get you started provided by Captain Morgan:
1.5 oz. Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
3 dashes bitters
5 oz. cola
In an ice-filled collins or rocks glass, combine all ingredients. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Captain Morgan Black & Honey
1.25 oz. Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum
.75 oz. fresh lemon juice
.5 oz. honey
1 lemon wedge
Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold. Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with a lemon wedge.
Captain Morgan Black Privateer Punch (serves 35)
1 750 ml Bottle Captain Morgan® Black Spiced Rum
3 750 ml Bottles Red Wine
1 750 ml Bottle Cherry Juice
2 Oranges, Sliced
2 Lemons, Sliced
2 Limes, sliced
1/2 lb. Cherries, Pitted
1 L Cola
Chill all ingredients. In a large punch bowl, crush the fresh fruit to extract the juices. Combine liquids and add a large block of ice. Serve the punch in wine glasses with pieces of fruit.
