Around the Scene: March 17, 2011

Cy WaitsCy Waits has kept a low profile since his departure from XS and Tryst nightclubs in August, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been busy. Waits has taken on the role of chief operating office for Insomniac Events, which puts on the Electronic Daisy Carnival, Beyond Wonderland and other pop-up music festivals. Waits’ first major event is Beyond Wonderland this Saturday in San Bernadino, Calif., in what Waits calls “the next generation of nightclubs.” Kaskade, Manufactured Superstars and 60 other top DJs are set to perform at the event that is expected to attract anywhere between 50,000 or 150,000 people. We can't wait to see him work his magic on the music world...

MarqueeMarquee Nightclub at The Cosmopolitan, which opened on New Year’s Eve 2011, isn’t done pulling out all the stops. On April 9, Marquee’s Dayclub will open. With its two pools, many bars and a gaming area, the Dayclub is sure to attract locals and tourists alike. What makes it stand out from other dayclubs in Vegas are its eight cabanas, infinity edge glass dipping pools, flat screen TVs, and VIP cocktail and food service. The NCB 2011 Top 100 honorees got a taste of the space during the Top 100 Party hosted by Marquee on March 10 and we can vouch for its cool vibe and luxurious take on poolside revelry.

Lebron JamesOpera nightclub in Atlanta filed a complaint against LeBron James, citing his cancellation of a March 17 appearance, for which the club paid him $25,000. The NBA star is said to have double-booked his services that day, choosing to appear at the Gold Room instead. However, Opera later dropped the claim, stating that a promoter acted without the authority of James, thus misleading the club.

Kaskade, winner of NCB’s Resident DJ of the Year Award, will begin his daytime residence at Encore Beach Club again this summer. Look for him as he takes over the DJ Booth for Encore’s “Daystar Sundays," performing May 1, May 29, July 3 and Sept. 4.

Everyone’s favorite guido, DJ Pauly D from “The Jersey Shore” fame will be the exclusive resident DJ at the N9NE Group’s Palms Casino Resort. Throughout 2011, check him out at Rain Nightclub, Moon Nightclub and Palms Pool & Bungalows.
