Beam Signs Southern Wine & Spirits to Exclusive Distribution Agreement for Iowa

Beam Inc. announced it has signed a long-term exclusive distribution agreement with Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. as the company’s broker for Iowa.

As part of the agreement, Southern Wine & Spirits will become responsible for broker representation throughout the entire state of Iowa, which adds to the agreement Beam has in place with SWS in 15 other Control States throughout the U.S., including Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Mississippi and Alabama.

“Iowa is an important market for Beam because it truly represents the heartland of this country and is a great growth opportunity for many of our brands,” said Bill Newlands, President Beam North America. “Southern Wine & Spirits is the right partner to help us drive this accelerated growth because not only are they an established leader of wine and spirits distribution, but they also understand how to best leverage our portfolio within a Control States environment. We are looking forward to aligning with Southern Wine & Spirits to expand our reach and growth in this key state.”

“We are pleased to add the state of Iowa to the growing list of markets where Southern and Beam are partners in growth,” said Wayne Chaplin, president and COO of Southern Wine & Spirits. “This agreement further increases Southern Wine & Spirits’ distribution and broker representation of Beam’s portfolio, and we look forward to delivering on our expanded business relationship.”

While leveraging a best-in-class broker model, Beam also plans to add critical resources and enhance its shopper insights, category management and customized marketing capabilities to further grow its business in Iowa. The long-term agreement, which aligns with both companies’ strategic performance plans, takes effect August 1, 2012. Southern Wine & Spirits is Beam’s sole distribution partner now in 30 states, making SWS Beam’s single largest distribution partner.

As part of the agreement, Southern Wine & Spirits will serve as a broker for the Beam portfolio, including leading brands Jim Beam Bourbon, Red Stag by Jim Beam, Pinnacle Vodka, Skinnygirl Cocktails, Sauza Tequila, Canadian Club Whisky, Courvoisier Cognac, Maker's Mark Whiskey, Laphroaig Scotch Whisky, Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey, Cruzan Rum and DeKuyper Cordials and Liqueurs.
