Finlandia Hosts 14th Annual International Finlandia Vodka Cup

Helsinki, Finland – Elite bartenders from around the world have the opportunity to compete in the 14th Annual International Finlandia Vodka Cup on Feb. 1, 2012 for a chance to win up to a total of $25,000. This year’s competition will host 20 global bartenders – 19 will be chosen through online entries during qualifying competitions and the final bartender will be chosen by a consumer’s choice online voting. All 20 finalists will travel to Finland as special guests of Finlandia for a chance to be crowned the champion.

“The Finlandia Vodka Cup is a celebration of all that is best about the creativity and skill of bartending. By bringing the winning bartenders to Finland, we also are thanking bartenders everywhere for making Finlandia the success it is around the world,” says Neil Punwani, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of Vodka at Brown-Forman. “This year, we are excited to give our consumers the opportunity to vote for the bartenders and drinks they love through digital tools such as Facebook. This year’s event truly connects the brand to our loyal consumers, brand ambassadors, and world-class bartenders as everyone gets a chance to participate.”

The competition’s new format allows bartenders from around the world to enter by submitting their recipe, along with a picture of the finished cocktail and description of its ingredients, online at For the first time bartenders will have the opportunity to actively engage consumers, encouraging online voting for their individual cocktail entry.

Online recipes for qualifying rounds will be accepted now until Nov. 23, 2011. Submissions will be judged and ranked by Finlandia’s Master Taster, Markku Raittinen and Global Mixologist, Pekka Pellinen. During the Vodka Cup finals, a panel of six judges will critique bartenders on the art, style and craft of three original Finlandia cocktails: aperitif, a long drink and the “Quick Mix.” The international FVC final follows the same format as in previous years but with a slight twist as each cocktail category will feature a specific Finlandia product. Finlandia vodka must be the primary ingredient of each.

Consumers who submit votes online not only help decide the finalists for the competition, but also three lucky winners will be flown to the Vodka Cup finals and be a part of the judging panel at the live event; this is a once in a lifetime experience.
