Greenhouse Gets Hit

New York nightclub Greenhouse and its owner Barry Mullineaux have been hit with a $1 billion class action lawsuit after African American author Teri Woods says guests invited to attend her book release party at the club were barred entry for being black and overweight. An attorney for Greenhouse, John Sampson, released a statement to WPIX News saying the lawsuit was news to Mullineaux and the venue. “My client has not been served, nor have we received any legal documents pertaining to the grossly false allegations made by Ms. Woods. When we have, we will review and take legal action. However we will not litigate this matter through the media as Ms. Woods has." There is a talk of a countersuit from the club as well as potential criminal charges against Woods; we’re guessing stemming from an alleged text message Woods sent to Mullineaux offering to drop the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount of cash.

Woods told the New York Daily News the incident left her in tears as her family and friends including African American lawyers, doctors and entertainers were left standing outside the trendy venue with a reputation for a tough door policy. Multiple sources also cite Woods as claiming she has allegedly received troublesome text messages from Mullineaux that read, "Everybody looking at me like this ur people Barry???" and "I couldn't let in 300lb girls." She also states that several other guests, who were white, did gain admittance to the club. Local scribe and legendary New Yawker Steve Lewis penned in his column: “The lawsuit is of course without merit. Greenhouse is a very mixed crowd, and racism doesn’t seem to be the reason for the problem.” We’ll see how this plays out.
