House Finds a Home in District 36

District 36House music has a new home. At least that’s the goal of the forthcoming NYC club District 36, set to open this fall.

Because dance music talents are starting to outshine celebrities and socialites as the top billing to pack in the crowds, focus is now shifting to the dance floor and what will keep patrons moving. Enter a new Manhattan custom-built venue resuscitating the vibe for clubbers.

Located at 29 W. 36th St. (between 5th and 6th Avenues) in the heart of Midtown, the three levels of District 36 will be filled with sound thanks to design and engineering by Gary Stewart Audio, also behind the systems at Ministry of Sound in England, Vinyl in NYC and more. This will be perfect for when Victor Calderone kicks off his Evolve DJ residency at its new home (previously at Pacha NYC). “As a DJ it’s important to establish a connection with your audience, and after traveling the world, instituting a regular base in NYC is like coming home,” says Calderone in a statement. “This residency will be a fresh start and as an artist it’s important to evolve, reenergize the crowd as well as myself and always stay ahead of the curve.”

But that’s not all for this music-centric club. Taimur Agha is on board as District 36’s music director. The DJ/producer and partner Fahad Haider also are responsible for the BlkMarket Membership parties around NYC, which were named “Best All-Night Dance Party” by New York Magazine in March. They’ll be bringing the award-winning event to D36 and both will serve as resident DJs at the venue as well.

If that wasn’t enough to prove how committed the club is to putting top-notch dance music front and center, Nightclub Confidential received confirmation of talent scheduled to play when District 36 opens its doors in late September: More than 25 artists are already booked, including Dubfire, Lee Burridge, Sasha, Steve Lawler, Timo Maas, Josh Wink, Damian Lazarus and DJ Hell.

Also joining the team is Lee Blumer as District 36’s special events director. Previously with Hammerstein Ballroom, crobar and M2, she and her team are aiming to bring an air of sophistication to events of all sizes.

Says Calderone of D36, “Together we will build a new home for clubbers.”
