Iris Bartender Investigates Herbs in Cocktails

A cocktail can improve your mood, but can it also boost your health? In a series of workshops in May, Sharon Floyd of Iris explores the relationship between alcoholic spirits and botanicals. The classes are aimed at both bartenders and home mixologists.

“I want to introduce people,” Floyd said, “to common herbs and lesser known Eastern herbs.”

Floyd has studied Ayurveda herbal medicine and teaches yoga when she’s not behind the bar. She even leads weekly yoga classes for her fellow bartenders at the Museum of the American Cocktail.

“I have one foot in the yoga world,” she said, “and one foot in the mixology world.”
