NY Daily News: Audrey Sanders and Jim Meehan Two NYC Mixologists up for James Beard Awards

From the New York Daily News:

When it comes to cocktails, New Yorkers don’t mess around. This year’s James Beard nominees for Best Bar Program include swanky Manhattan watering holes PDT and Pegu Club — run by Jim Meehan and Audrey Sanders, respectively.

“Words can’t describe how honored we are to be recognized,” says Meehan, whose hidden cocktail lounge — which is located through a phone booth in East Village hot dog joint Crif Dogs — serves up some of the city’s most talked-about libations.

“As a career bartender, being welcomed into the first family is something I’ve always dreamed of.”

Sanders agrees. The Pegu Club, a sexy hideaway which serves ingredient-driven cocktails to those in the know, is a dream come true for the master mixologist. And being recognized by the James Beard Foundation is an even bigger one.

“From the very beginning, I was always proud to tell people I was a bartender,” she says. “But when I do now they no longer ask me what my real job is, and I consider that in itself a real win.”
