Spirit Journal Editor F. Paul Pacult named Cognac Personality of the Year 2011

New York, NY - For the past five years, the Cognac industry has gathered in Cognac to celebrate the grape harvest with a gala dinner and auction that raises hundreds of thousands of eurosfor charitable causes. On Sept. 15, two awards were handed out by Le Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) for the Best Cognac Book of the Year and for the International Cognac Personality of the Year.

This year's recipient of the Best Cognac Book of the Year 2011 was Texan Roy Renfro, author of "Grape Man of Texas." The recipient of Cognac Personality of the Year 2011 was Spirit Journal editor and New York-based spirits authority and educator F. Paul Pacult. Catherine Le Page, BNIC Director, presented the awards.

Said Pacult, "I thank the BNIC and the Cognac industry for this award. I'm honored to receive the Cognac industry's recognition for 22 years of writing, reviewing and relishing one of the most illustrious beverages in existence. Cognac's centuries-old pedigree and timeless brilliance make it a cornerstone distillate and a global presence. Over the past two decades, I've had the pleasure of reviewing hundreds of Cognacs for Spirit Journal and numerous other publications."

In addition to editing the Spirit Journal, F. Paul Pacult is a founding partner of Beverage Alcohol Resource LLC and Ultimate Beverage Challenge LLC and has written for scores of publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Playboy, Wine Enthusiast and Sky, the Delta Airlines in-flight magazine. He is the author of five books and is the only person in the world to concurrently be a Master of the Quaich in The Keepers of the Quaich (Edinburgh, Scotland); a Life Member of Compagnie des Mousquetaires d'Armagnac (Gascony, France); a Life Member of the Bourbon Hall of Fame (Bardstown, Kentucky) and now Cognac Personality of the Year.

"This is my ninth trip to Cognac since 1991," said Pacult, "and doubtless one of the most memorable. I salute the women and men of Cognac who have perpetuated the vision and intentions of the first Cognac distillers of the 17th century. Cognac is an authentic beverage of place and that lovely, bucolic place is Cognac. J'adore Cognac!"
