Record Store Day was founded in 2007 as an effort to bring nationwide attention to independently owned record stores. The day is marked by special vinyl and CD releases made exclusively by artists for Record Store Day, as well as in-store music events such as meet & greets, performances and parades. Today, more than 700 record stores in the United States participate in the day, taking advantage of the opportunity to connect with consumers and performers and celebrate the culture of the record store. Record Store Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in April.

“We couldn’t think of a better fit than TouchTunes to help us reach music fans across the country and drive them to their local record stores to celebrate Record Store Day on April 16,” said Michael Kurtz, co-founder of Record Store Day. “TouchTunes reaches millions of music enthusiasts every day, and following last year’s success we are sure this year will be a hit too.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with TouchTunes once again to promote Record Store Day,” said Anthony Ellis, Vice President, Marketing, U.S. Sales, Sony Music Entertainment. “This special playlist is a great way to celebrate the exciting offerings from Sony Music artists that are available through participating independent record stores, and engage fans who experience music across TouchTunes’ network of digital jukeboxes, TV screens and mobile devices.”

Vicki Saunders, TouchTunes Vice President, Digital Media and Music Marketing, added, “TouchTunes is excited to help mark the biggest day of the year for record stores, and to support the efforts of independent music vendors across the country. And this year, we’re not only promoting the day, but also offering to our customers the chance to hear exclusive tracks that will only be available on the TouchTunes network!”
