2008 Korbel Riesling California Champagne

Korbel Riesling

The 2008 Korbel Riesling California Champagne, now available nationally, is made from riper grapes than usual, so to preserve the character of the sparkler. The winemakers cold-fermented it to retain significant residual sugar. The wine is a pale straw color with lilac, apricot and orange blossom aromas with subtle notes of yeast. The palate has flavors of apricot, lemon and clove honey, complementing the wine’s acidity and contributing to its long, crisp finish.

2009 Valley of the Moon Unoaked Chardonnay

Valley of the Moon Unoaked Chardonnay

Valley of the Moon Winery presents its 2009 Unoaked Chardonnay. The cool growing season in the Russian River Valley produced small, intensely flavored grapes that retained their natural acidity. The wine, which fermented in stainless steel tanks, was bottled after five months and features red apple, nectarine and citrus aromas with citrus and nectarine flavors. A fruit-driven taste adds to the crisp, lingering finish. It goes well with salads, seafood, Asian cuisine and pastas in cream sauce.

Planet Bordeaux Program

Mirambeau Papin Bordeaux

Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur winemakers have started a PR effort in the U.S. with the Planet Bordeaux program, beginning with a revamped website to make the wines more well known in the U.S. More than 300 Planet Bordeaux wines are available in the U.S., and the website will make them more accessible by listing retailers, wine schools, serving and food-pairing suggestions. The Bordeaux region of France produces full-bodied and earthy red wines, well-balanced whites and rosé, sweet and sparkling varietals, like the one pictured here.
