Nightclub & Bar November 2012 Bartender of the Month: Victoria D’Amato-Moran
The daughter of a San Francisco bartender, and directly related to the historical fishing industry at the Fishermen’s Wharf, Victoria D’amato-Moran’s family was always cooking, making wine, grappa, liqueurs and vinegars. Destined to follow in her father’s footsteps, D’Amato-Moran, started in the restaurant business working under Jeremiah Tower, at his 4-star restaurant, Stars. Finding herself managing a bar for her cousin in North Beach, in 2000, she knew bartending and inventing new drinks would be her art. Soon after, Victoria entered and won her first drink competition in 2003, and in 2005 was voted the Best “Side Car Cocktail” by San Francisco Magazine. Now, with 20 successful competitions under her belt D’amato-Moran is a decorated and respected mixologist. MORE>>

Joshua Perez Wins Gold at Pamalympics Charity Bartending Competition
Yesterday evening, three competitors faced off at NYC’s Pouring Ribbons at the first-ever PAMALYMPICS. Competitors James Menite, Joshua Perez and Doug Miller underwent three challenge rounds in front of a panel of judges and a crowd of fans to determine the winner. In the end, Joshua Perez of Booker & Dax took home the Gold and $5,000 as the top PAMAlympian. In addition, PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur made a donation of $1,260 to the New York Chapter of the US Bartender’s Guild’s Hurricane Sandy relief fund, which helps clean up and restore local bars in the storm’s aftermath. Palms to debut cocktail lounge Scarlet in December
he next step in the rejuvenation of the Palms is the December opening of Scarlet, an intimate cocktail bar from 9Group Las Vegas with a beverage program designed by Francesco Lafranconi, executive director of mixology for Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada. With a contemporary speakeasy feel and, of course, lots of red, Scarlet will take over the Palms’ corner casino space, formerly home to the Stuff store, right next to N9NE Steakhouse. 9Group vice president Bronson Olimpieri said in a statement: “Scarlet’s stylish vibe and unmatched offerings from Francesco are unlike anything seen at Palms before.” MORE>>

Ultimate Beverage Challenge LLC (UBC), announces the 2013 dates for its fourth annual Ultimate Spirits Challenge (USC) and Ultimate Wine Challenge (UWC). Both judging events, led by UBC founder and Judging Chairman F.
