Bio:

Angela Wright is a dynamic Detroit-based entrepreneur, educator, real estate broker/investor and community advocate whose vision and leadership are reshaping the hospitality landscape across the city.  With a passion for connecting people and creating spaces that bring culture, style, and community together, Angela has built a bar and lounge empire that now spans Detroit’s Eastside, Westside, and Downtown—making her a powerful force in an industry where women owners remain rare.

Born in Wiesbaden, West Germany, Angela Wright is a bold and visionary leader in the bar and hospitality industry. She holds a Master’s in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Communication from Western Michigan University. Her background in education and communication plays a central role in her leadership approach—blending strategic thinking, people development, and clear vision to successfully manage bar operations, lead diverse teams, and shape memorable guest experiences.

Education remains a pillar in Angela’s life. Today, she teaches part-time as a public speaking professor for Wayne County Community College District, working with high school students enrolled in a college credit dual enrollment program. Her gift for communication and leadership is not only felt in the classroom but echoed in every one of her business ventures.

Angela is now the sole owner of four successful bar and lounge concepts in Detroit, each with its own distinct identity but all tied together by her unmistakable sense of style, attention to atmosphere, and commitment to quality experiences:

~MIX Bricktown & MIX Mobile Kitchen – Established in 2011, this downtown favorite located in Detroit’s historic Bricktown District is known for its bold cocktails, nightlife energy, and community vibe.

~LOCKEROOM Sports Lounge & Food Truck – An iconic neighborhood sports bar on Livernois in the University District off the Avenue of Fashion. In operation for 37 years, Angela has owned and led the business since 2018, bringing new energy while honoring its legacy.

~ME & U Kitchen and Cocktails - Angela’s newest concept, ME & U, represents the final piece of her citywide vision—bringing an inclusive, stylish bar experience to Detroit’s Eastside.  

With the launch of her newest concept, ME & U, Angela now owns and operates four distinct bar and lounge brands, each with its own identity and audience. Together, they form a dynamic portfolio that spans Downtown, Westside, Eastside, and outdoor nightlife experiences—making her one of the few Black women in the country to hold such a diverse and strategically positioned presence in the hospitality industry. Her ownership reflects not just geographic coverage, but cultural influence—meeting the unique needs of Detroit’s communities while setting a new standard for inclusive, experience-driven nightlife.

With each establishment, Angela carefully curates an experience that speaks to both men and women—balancing masculine and feminine aesthetics, providing elevated food and beverage menus, and maintaining environments rooted in safety, culture, and connection. Her venues aren't just places to drink; they’re places to belong.

Angela believes her mission is bigger than business—it's about building spaces that uplift Detroit, support local talent, and bring people together. Her bars create jobs, spark relationships, and keep Detroit’s nightlife thriving.

Her leadership has earned widespread recognition. Angela is a graduate of the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program and the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit Class XL. She has been honored by the City of Detroit and received the Michigan Chronicle’s Woman of Excellence Award, among other accolades.
